DP6.01 goes to sleep

Today Digital Performer went berserk. It would not respond to mouse clicks. All the menus worked but all the items in the menus were grayed out. All DP windows were inactive. Keyboard shortcuts would not work. The Apple Force Quit Applications dialog didn’t see a problem with the app.

Troubleshooting

Quit all other running applications. => no change in DP stand off
Removed peripheral USB drives => no change
Power cycled the audio interface => no change
Tested the MIDI setup => no problems, no change with DP
Tried opening another DP session to see if DP would ask to save the currently opened one. => Didn’t work, no change
Looked for last modified files written around the time DP freaked out. Noticed that one screen box was always in the foreground. Every time I moved a finder window this box would stay in the foreground. Odd. It was the page selector for the score editor. The user was about to do some step entry stuff and the last thing she did was type in a new page number. => I was able to type in a new page number. Bam! DP started to rebuild windows! Kontakt patches reloaded. It was coming ALIVE! We quickly did a saved as.. command to save a new version of the DP project.

DAE error -6001

Lauched Pro Tools 9.0.3. Using a MOTU 828mkII interface. Got the -6001 error. Then PT would quit.

MOTU’s Audio Setup application recognized the interface but I noticed that the clock was not showing a sample rate. Turned the MOTU off and then back on. Clock lit 44.1kHz. Afterwards, PT launched just fine.

Chinese Characters in html

I recently needed to show chinese characters on a website. I found out that you can use a numeric character reference to display the characters. Now all I needed was a way to translate the characters to decimal numeric character references. Here’s a website with some tools to do so. http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php?page=tools

I simple copy the chinese characters into the section title “convert text to HTML code”. Then, copy the resultant numerical references into the html document. 你 would be replaced by 你 ;

MBox doesn’t use the Core Audio Manager?!?

Not sure, but it seems the MBox2 does not use the Core Audio Manager. Allegedly, the CoreAudio Manager is for other Digidesign equipment. The USB MBox 2 is class compliant. The mac knows what to do with it. It will show up as a “Default” system input and output in the Audio MIDI Setup.

Finale 2010b is Installed

Its only a year old, but we finally upgraded to Finale 2010 in studio 4, 5, 7, 8, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4.

Finale 2008 was removed from all machines.

C|24 talkback, No signal — just Noise

Problem: Digidesign C|24 control surface has a microphone embedded into the meter bridge for talkback applications. When I would push the talkback button and turn up the talkback gain, all I would hear was white noise through the C|24 Cue outputs.

Solution: In my case, all my wiring was correct (yeah), however, the external talkback microphone was enabled.

Press the Utility switch
Press “Preferences”
Press “Talkback”
Press “Off” for Ext TB Mic”
